5 Interview Tips

Interviews are difficult and nerve-racking for us all.

Below are 5 tips to help you.



Prior to the interview you should you should research the company, re-reading the job description, fully understanding the role you’re applying for and the reasons why they should hire you for the position. Ask yourself why you want this job as this is one of the questions you will most likely be asked.

They may ask you to tell them about yourself and your experience, and why you think you would be the best candidate for the job. This is where it helps to have a prepared, rehearsed speech ready as to who you are and what you can do. Are you interested in a long-term career? They might ask you where you see yourself in 6 months or 5 years time. Plan how you will answer these types of questions.

Know your strengths and weaknesses and the value you can bring to their business.

List some questions you may want to ask your prospective employer too. It shows you are interested and also gives you the opportunity to find out what kind of employer they are culturally.



DO NOT be late! Arrive approximately 10 -15 minutes before your interview is due to start. This will give you that little bit time to check out the facility and you also may need the extra time to sign in.

If you’re unsure where you’re going, consider a trial run before the day of the interview or if you need to go on public transport, plan the route beforehand. You don’t want to turn up all flustered.



First impressions count!

Dress for the job you’ve applied for and choose your outfit to suit. Make sure you smile and always give a firm handshake. Show the interviewer that you’re keen and interested. Eye contact is essential.



A note of the company address, interviewer name and position.

Pen and paper/notepad to take notes. Do not use your phone.

Printed copy of your CV and copies of any relevant certification/training courses.

Questions you would like to ask the interviewer.
