2020 Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a long-established and highly respected engineering business as they look to appoint an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to their team in Kirkcaldy.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong fabrication background and a natural eye for detail to join a stable, well-run company that takes real pride in the quality of its work. The role is primarily office-based, with occasional site visits across Scotland to support accurate project delivery.

The Role
As Structural Steel Estimator, you will play a key role in the commercial success of projects, producing accurate and competitive estimates for fabrication and welding work. Projects will range from material take-offs through to full assemblies and site installation works. You will work closely with internal teams and clients, ensuring each tender is well-considered, clearly presented, and commercially sound.

Duties & Responsibilities

As the Structural Steel Estimator your duties will include:
• Reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings and project specifications
• Producing detailed material take-offs and pricing proprietary items
• Preparing tender submissions and offer documentation
• Pricing site installation works, accounting for labour, materials, plant, and logistics
• Attending site visits to fully understand scope and constraints
• Liaising with clients and internal stakeholders to clarify technical and commercial details
• Maintaining accurate pricing records and supporting ongoing project cost control
• Providing cost data and insight to support project teams

What We’re Looking For

To be considered for the Structural Steel Estimator role you must have:
• A background in fabrication, ideally light to medium, with heavy fabrication experience beneficial
• Solid experience in welding and full assembly fabrication
• Strong understanding of shop-floor engineering processes
• Proven ability to complete material take-offs from technical drawings
• Experience pricing site installation works
• Right to work in the UK and live within a commutable distance of Kirkcaldy
• Strong communication skills and a professional approach to clients and colleagues
• Full driving licence preferred due to occasional site visits
